piece of architecture and interior design, a project assigned
to one of the most outstanding Cuban architects from the
first half of 20th Century, Leonardo Morales. Built for
a very rich business man settled in Cuba at the very end
of the 1920’s, Mark A. Pollack ( descendent of Americans
), the Mansion shows a unique combination of Cuban Neoclassical
and Italian Renaissance styles, with some American influence.

Mark Pollack was also an artist, and painted himself
some outstanding murals portraying moments of the

Located in the former
Country Club urban areas, this is nice replica of Florentine
palaces, each of the 46 columns at the central court yard
was made with different marbles (Verona red, Carrara white,
Cuban pearly grey and mountain green); brought at high cost
from several countries. The arches made of Catalonian bricks
and the terrazzo floors are key elements within the inner
spaces, and all the rooms open to the central yard allowing
the house to have perfect crossed ventilation.
At the entrance, the monumental
staircase with marble sculptures to each side guides
you to the second floor, while the unusual main living
room (16 meters wide x 8 meters deep) faces the terrace
and gardens with exotic birds and plants. The sculptured
fountains, the masterpieces of painting, the porcelain
jars and the gigantic ceiling made of precious timber
complete the decoration of this palace.
All rooms are decorated
with luxury and elegance and open to a pleasant view of
the gardens.
Even
the swimming pool was decorated with miniaturized tiles.
The Full restoration of this masterpiece of architecture
cost two millions US dollars. Very important guests
have been lodged in it, including heads of foreign states
and world-wide known artists.
