Cuban Ballet Workshops

The Special Training /Education Department of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba was founded in Havana in March 1999 under the direction of Alicia Alonso. Its primary aim is to instruct both, students and teachers, in the methodology of the Cuban school of ballet as well as in other related subjects.

The teaching staff is comprised by maîtres and professors of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba and other dance experts designated by its director, all of recognized international prestige, which convey a work experience in the field of dance.

While it imparts the universal language of ballet technique, the Cuban school of ballet is the expression of the idiosyncrasy and aesthetics of the Latin American culture which is rooted in the general ethnic and cultural characteristics of the Ibero American and Caribbean peoples.

The Department has developed a program covering various disciplines aimed at individuals or specific groups. These include Ballet, Pointe, Variations, Pas de Deux, Panorama of Dance History, Modern Dance, Music Appreciation, Applied psychology, Spanish dance, Body conditioning and Makeup, among others.

Held at the permanent headquarters of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba in Havana, classes are available throughout the year and can be designed to meet individual student needs. Classes consist of theoretical- practical preparation in a basic module in Ballet, Pointe and Body Conditioning. Individual classes and optional subjects are also offered.

Applicants must travel with a student visa, for which we must know the following data: complete name, date and place of birth, nationality, passport number with date of issue and expiration and Cuban consulate in which to place the visa.

The Special Training /Education Department of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba offers International Dance Workshops of three or four weeks´ duration, which can be held in educational or artistic institutions of other countries. These are structured according to the age and level of the enrolled students, and the subjects may vary to meet the interests of the institutions requesting them.

These Workshops are organized under a contract signed by the Ballet Nacional de Cuba and the concerned institution. Diplomas awarded.
